How a Spin Class Changed the Way I Worship [Guest Post]

How a Spin Class Changed the Way I Worship [Guest Post]

This week I’m guest posting over at the Hoboken Grace blog as a part of the Direction Series. Exercise class isn’t usually a place where I meet God. I used to be one of those people who saw exercise as an instrument of torture, or a means to an end for maintaining weight. I had no natural athletic abilities, so I figured why bother trying to push my body to do something it doesn’t want to do? But slowly, as I’ve given new forms of exercise a try, I’ve begun to discover the benefits athletes seemed to be raving about all long. ... Read More »

Praying Through Pain (Hoboken Grace Guest Post)

Praying Through Pain (Hoboken Grace Guest Post)

I am guest posting over at the Hoboken Grace Blog this week about how to pray in the midst of pain. We’re currently in a series called “In the Meantime: What do you do when there’s nothing you can do?” which, in (too) many ways, perfectly describes my life right now. I have experienced His love and grace in such ... Read More »

29 Lessons I Learned in My Twenties

29 Lessons I Learned in My Twenties

Yesterday was my last day in my twenties. As strange as it seems to let go of this decade (already?!), I am looking forward to my thirties and what the future holds. Looking back, here are some of the most important lessons I learned in my twenties. 1. You have issues. Start dealing with them. We all have wounds from childhood and past relationships. The sooner you admit this and start working towards healing and wholeness, the ... Read More »

Santa Christ? Jesus Claus?

Separating the attributes of Jesus from those of Santa this time of year can be tricky. Growing up as an American kid in a Christian household, I was told that “Jesus was the reason for the season” but that big ol’ jolly guy in the red suit was definitely a reason, too. Always the inquisitive one, I had figured out by about age five or six that Santa Claus was just a legend and commercialized character, but that did not stop me from wanting all the perks on Christmas morning that came along with believing. And yet there was still ... Read More »

2014: The Year of Intention

As I was reading through other blogger’s posts and their new year’s resolutions, I saw a lot on this idea of choosing a “theme word” for the year. At first I thought that might be a bit much and didn’t think I had one, but as I sat down to solidify my goals for this year, the word intentional kept popping up. I want to be more intentional with my life, living more aware and with more purpose, in every single facet. Too often I find my NYC whirl-wind paced life distracts me and my days, weeks, and months begin ... Read More »
